October is always a fun time at the Preserve. The Wolves look fabulous getting their big winter coats and ruffs back. In preparation for the winter breeding season, Wolves in the wild court and pair bond at this time of year. Wolf Howl Wolves start getting pretty flirty and engage the opposite sex in play. The local coyotes who share the same breeding time lines are also coming around more. This year they are bolder than ever. We have two outside guard dogs that are not happy about that but the Wolves love it and howl to them. Chito has been doing some lovely solo howling. I think she is hoping that handsome Red Wolf comes back to see her.
We held the Wolves pumpkin party 2 days before Halloween this year because we knew it was gonna rain really hard on the 31st and there was a chance of rain for the 30th. I’m glad we didn’t wait, the day was lovely and the Wolves had a great time. They ate all of their treats and some of their pumpkins, too. I felt like this enrichment activity was the most successful since Nita passed away. I think they are finally recovering. We would like to thank all of the Wolf adoptive parents. Their enrichment activities are because of you. Howls!!!! Watch the Wolf pumpkin video below.
