Eastern Box Turtle
This Eastern Box Turtle took a walk across Wolf Howl Animal Preserve today. The photographer, Maria Ferguson, caught up with the Terrapene carolina, as he approached some newly planted Mums.
The Eastern Box Turtle has a movable plastron hinge which alllows the lower shell to close tightly against the carapace. Males usually have red eyes and females have yellowish-brown eyes.
