Federal authorities confirmed Friday they are investigating the death of another endangered Mexican gray wolf that was found shot along the New Mexico-Arizona border.Broken Heart

The male wolf is the third to be found dead within the past month and the second member of the Hawks Nest Pack to be shot to death.

"There are two females, the breeding female and a yearling female. Those are the only two animals left to hunt for the seven pups and that really puts a crimp on their survivability," Buckley said.Broken Heart

There is are also two wolves that biologists have not been able to locate recently.Broken HeartBroken Heart

The carcass of male wolf 1189 was located northeast of Big Lake, within 2 miles of where the carcass of another wolf from the hawks nest pack, 1044, was found on June 18. The pack traditionally uses the area east of Big Lake on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests as their spring-summer breeding territory.

This is just horrible and the only solution I see is to find those responsible and make an example out of them.  The maximum punishments must be handed out.Broken Heart

"Environmentalists are pushing the feds - "as a precaution" - to take back the radios loaned to ranchers and others in Arizona and New Mexico that allow the wolves to be tracked.

... on Friday, 16 environmental groups released a letter they had sent last month to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, urging that the wildlife service take back the radios capable of tracking the radio-collared wolves that the agency has loaned cattle ranchers for years. The environmentalists said the radios make the wolves vulnerable to poaching. Salazar's office hasn't yet responded to the letter.

Ranching groups deny the "ridiculous" suggestion that any ranchers would use the radios to target wolves for shootings. "

It is ridiculous to continue a deadly plan without serious changes and expect different results.Thumbs DownBroken Heart

The Big Dog and I were talking about this situation yesterday.  With so few Mexican Wolves in 2 states, there has to be someone or something telling these people who shoot them where they are. Mad  The cow was most certainly used as bait.MadMad
