Wowie, we’ve really had some hot days these past few weeks. Some days almost reached 100 degrees and the humidity was horrid. The Wolves were sluggish and not eating very well. We put our thinking caps on and came up with the idea of outdoor fans. I did a search on the Internet and found a wonderful gentleman named Kurt from All Things Industrial, Inc. who really gave me some good advice as to what I needed for them. He had already sold the same models to a Zoo in Florida for their giraffes. He told me that the giraffes put their faces right up to them. I talked it over with Don who does the setup for that kind of stuff for the Preserve and between the three of us, we agreed that it just might work. I anticipated their arrival and when they did come we set them up immediately on a temporary stand. We wanted to make sure they wouldn’t be afraid of them. I’m happy to report they work like a charm and they are all doing well with them even Wa-ta-chee. Check out the video Wolfie Air Conditioning.
The Wolves are also utilizing the other cooling options they have available to them, like their den and the tubs. See our Wolf Video, called Summer Breeze. We are having many visitors come this month from all over the US. I have been advising them if they can to come at 6:00pm in the evening so that the Wolves will be more lively. I am also concerned that they would get too stressed with visitors during the hottest part of the day. They are all very healthy and have even been giving us some good chorus howls at night. The local coyotes and our dogs sing all with them. Speaking of howling, we have just purchased the equipment to make a revolutionary Wolf howl CD. It will be available in surround sound and I’m really excited about it. We may just have to wait until the fall to start recording for it. Right now, we are just learning about the equipment and how it works. We did manage to put together a small sample and it’s wonderful. It felt like Wolves surrounded me even though I was sitting in my living room. Very cool! I will let you all know when it is available for purchase. Take some lessons from the Wolves, stay inside or out of the sun at the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water, put your feet up in front of the fan and splash in your tubs.
