My husband's brothers were in town for a visit and they all went for a bike ride yesterday and they brought the poochies along too.  We've biked with the boys before, but I don't think we've gone as far; the ride was 10 miles out and 10 miles back (that was the plan at least).  Geordi made it 8 miles out and decided to stop and lay down on the path.  We're not sure if he was just tired or lazy or hurt.  He was a little awkward going down the stairs last night but we couldn't find any serious injury and he's fine now.  He's always been difficult to get to run though.  I'm starting to think he's just not the typical husky.  Miles is fantastic; he will run forever if given the opportunity and if he has someone to follow.  He just went the 10 miles out and got a car ride back with Geordi.  Oh and they both have the mushing x-style harnesses and padded shoes and my husband gave them lots of water.

So what's up with Geordi?  Anyone else have a lazy husky?

I don't think Geordi is defective or lazy.

I would take him to the vet.  There could be many answers to why Geordi is awkward on the stairs from joint pain (a simple xray) to overheating.  Do you know how to tell if your dog is overheated?  Was Geordi panting heavily when he stopped and layed down after 8 miles?  Does he keep his hind legs close together common amongst dogs with hip pain?

i think you should bring him to the vet. maybe he pulled a muscle while running. its strange considering it was something he was used too, its not as if it was his first time in a harness.

i don't think he's lazy. my Kody is lazy! he lays down and cries when you put a harness on him and then walks beside me when im on the scooter instead of pulling! Maya was my lead dog Smile she used to cry when we got home and sit beside the scooter until you brought her out again Smile

hope everything is ok with Geordi Thumbs Up

Well Geordi was perfectly fine on the stairs later that night and all day yesterday; no signs of any discomfort going down stairs or running.  I'm not sure why he was awkward that one time on the stairs.  We are taking it easy with exercise for now though, they need to recoup.

I have noticed that when we take the boys for a run, they will lay down (more like collapse) on the kitchen floor by the water bowl and pant pant pant for a good 10 minutes when we get back.  Geordi gets pretty drool-ie afterwards too.  I've been concerned that the panting for so long afterwards was a sign that we were working them too much or they were too hot.  Miles seems to recover very well, and isn't even tired by the run.  Geordi on the other hand is plum tuckered out and gets soaked by his own drool.  So does that mean he's overheated?

Now I'm all stressed out!  I want to make sure we're not hurting my poor Geordi-cakes.  Confused

if he's drooling excessively after a run then its usually a sign of stress. when we got Bella the car journey home was bumpy and she got stressed. she drooled soooo much! it was scary but i cuddled her and she was fine.

maybe taking a break every 15 minute while running with him could help. let him drink plenty of water and give him lots of cuddles Wink
