Yesterday was 3 weeks post-op and Gilbert was doing well. He was still wearing the cone while his ankle sores continued to heal, but otherwise he was on track. Last night I went to bed at 11 pm and he was fine. This morning I discovered he injured himself during the night. Although he was still wearing the cone, he had managed to reach his leg and did some damage to both his knee and ankle. He isn't able to put any weight on the leg at all. The clinic sent one of their guys to my home to pick him up (38 miles one way), as I was too concerned about further injuring him to even try getting him in our car. His surgeon doesn't work on Weds. but I was told he will try to get into the office this afternoon to see Gilbert. He is in obvious pain, whimpering and groaning even after he got his meds with breakfast. In all liklihood he'll spend the night there and I highly suspect they'll have to resplint the leg. I can only pray that he won't require additional surgery.
Please keep sweet Gilbert in your thoughts and prayers. It breaks my heart to see him in pain and I feel terrible that he's having to endure this. Broken HeartCrying

I'll post an update when I know more.

Good news...xray shows no fracture and the implant hardware is intact. The vet says he may have twisted the knee/leg. The joint is inflammed so they'll treat it with ice first, then laser therapy. Gilbert has a slight temp of 102.7 so he may have an infection, although unlikely. The vet took fluid from the knee and sent it out to determine if there is an infection (results in 72 hours). Meanwhile, he's back on antibiotics. Dr. Smith will re-evaluate and give me an update in the morning.

Love Thanks everyone for your good thoughts and prayers. I was truly fearful of a worse outcome. I believe our prayers were heard and answered.
